 MiraCosta College Academic Associate Faculty (MCCAAF) is a unique stand-alone union and a chapter of the California Teachers Association, solely representing Associate Faculty. We are proud to have been the first employee group to organize, over 20 years ago.
 


 

The benefits of joining our Union are many, including:

  • Legal assistance, including a $1,000,000 insurance policy if you are sued while teaching;
  • Discounts for various types of insurance coverage;
  • Discounts for hotels, travel, attractions, and more;
  • Eligibility to vote in Union elections and run for positions on the Executive Board;
  • Representation at any District discussions regarding discipline, complaints, or other matters;

WEINGARTEN RIGHTS

“If an employee has a reasonable belief that discipline or other adverse consequences may result from what he or she says, the employee has the right to request union representation. When the employee makes the request for a union representative to be present, management has three options:

  1. Stop questioning until the representation arrives.
  2. Call off the interview or,

Tell the employee that it will call off the interview unless the employee voluntarily gives up his/her rights to union representation (an option the employee should always refuse).”


 

Fall 2025 - Our parent union is the California Teachers Association (CTA). We are considered CATEGORY4 members, defined as community college and adult education employees employed only on a part-time/hourly basis. As such, this is a breakdown of our annual dues:

  • CTA Dues - $99.60
  • NEA Dues - $70.75
  • CCA Dues - $49.50
  • MCCAAF Dues - $82.15

Total Annual Dues: $302.00

Our total annual Union dues are deducted automatically in eight installments of $37.75 per pay period. We are working with MCC Labor Relations and Payroll to offer various dues payment options for faculty on other contracts, ensuring all members can maintain active membership and demonstrating our commitment to accommodating your needs.


 A Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is a legally binding written contract between an employer and a labor union representing a group of employees (known as the bargaining unit). Thiagreement outlines the terms and conditions of employment for those employees.

 At MiraCosta College, an MOU, or Memorandum of Understanding, is a formal document that outlines an agreement between the college (or the district) and another entity, such as a faculty union, the college foundation, or other government or educational partners, for specific collaborative or operational purposes. These agreements detail the shared intentions and responsibilities of the parties involved for things like training programs, research, or even how to address workplace conditions, and they can range from legally binding to non-binding documents, depending on their context.
